  • Dairyland Power has donated a total of $10,000 to the Alma (Wis.) Little League in support of improvements to the community baseball field. Dairyland Power contributed $5,000, which was then matched in full by CoBank, a national cooperative bank, through CoBank’s Sharing Success program. The donation is funding improvements such as a tall backstop fence and protective fencing in front of the dugouts, as well as new lighting poles. “Safety is our highest priority at Dairyland, which includes employee and public safety,” said Dairyland Manager, Alma Site, Brian Treadway. “The improvements to the Alma ball field are a ‘homerun’ since they benefit game safety and enjoyment for both players and fans.”
  • Approximately 600 electric cooperative leaders and guests attended Dairyland Power Cooperative’s 74th annual meeting at the La Crosse Center on June 3. Dan Korn, Chairman of the Board and director representing Vernon Electric Cooperative, presided. The theme of the meeting was Evolving Cooperatively. • Dairyland is expanding its commitment to renewable resources with the purchase of output from Sartell Hydro, a hydroelectric generation station located on the Mississippi River in Sartell, Minn. A long-term power purchase agreement between Dairyland and Eagle Creek Renewable Energy for the facility’s total output of 10 MW was effective in April. Sartell Hydro is expected to power approximately 4,500 homes with water-powered electricity. “Dairyland appreciated working with Eagle Creek, an experienced hydro developer, to achieve this agreement which will be beneficial to our members and the environment,” said John Carr, Dairyland Vice President, Strategic Planning.

He succeeds Chuck Callies who is retiring on April 2 after 24 years of service to Dairyland. “Ben possesses a skill set that combines strategic thinking and the technical expertise needed to be a leader in our complex electric utility industry,” said Barb Nick, President and CEO. “I am confident that Ben will be a strong member of Dairyland’s leadership team as we safely and reliably serve our members’ future needs.” As Vice President, Power Delivery, Porath will be responsible for system operations and energy delivery, business continuity and compliance.
