  • Mary Lund, vice president of Human Resources at Dairyland Power Cooperative, was recently awarded the 2002 Toastmasters’ Communications and Leadership Award.
  • In compliance with the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC), Dairyland Power Cooperative conducted an Emergency Action Plan (EAP) exercise earlier today for its Flambeau Hydroelectric Station near Ladysmith, Wis. The functional exercise was attended by Dairyland personnel, local Ladysmith, Rusk County and state agencies and officials and FERC representatives.
  • Dairyland Power Cooperative is taking part in a Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources' (WDNR) purple loosestrife biological control program. The goal is to help eradicate the invasive wetland plant at an area adjacent to Dairyland's Flambeau hydroelectric power facility.
  • The storyline behind a 20th Century Fox film debuting nationwide today contains a dangerous premise involving touching live electric lines. In Like Mike, the character's basketball shoes are strung on a power line during an electric storm. As the child grabs the shoes, lightning striking the line gives him a charge that bestows him with magical powers that make him like the great Michael Jordan.
  • The remarkable success of Dairyland Power Cooperative's Peregrine Falcon Stewardship Program grew again this spring with the hatching of seven new falcon chicks at two of Dairyland's power plant facilities. Three chicks hatched at the Genoa, Wis., power plant and four at the Alma, Wis., facility. Both plants are ideally located in the falcon's natural habitat along the Mississippi River.
  • Nearly 700 delegates and guests attended Dairyland Power Cooperative's 61st Annual Meeting at the La Crosse Center earlier today. President and CEO of the Center for Energy and Economic Development Steve Miller delivered the afternoon keynote address on the future of coal in America
  • Dairyland Power Cooperative joins the Midwest Hydro Users Group (HUG) in observing Dam Safety Awareness Week, April 28-May 4. HUG is an association of dam owners whose purpose is to promote safe, efficient and economical use of hydroelectric power. Dam Safety Awareness Week is positioned at a time of year when many river enthusiasts are looking forward to returning to their favorite water recreational activities.
  • House Energy and Commerce Committee 41-6 vote endorsing Yucca Mountain, Nev., as a permanent spent nuclear fuel repository is "good news for electric ratepayers, our national security and our environment" according to William L. Berg, president and CEO of Dairyland Power Cooperative. Dairyland is the owner of a closed nuclear facility near Genoa, Wis., which cannot be fully decommissioned until a repository is sited.
  • Dairyland's fantastically successful Peregrine Falcon Restoration Program was featured in an Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI) news release in February. The release reported on a completed EPRI experiment affirming the excellent health of Peregrines reared on the stacks at power plants, like those at two of Dairyland Power's facilities. The results alleviated concerns over the raptors' exposure to power plant emissions, as "Peregrine falcons run no additional health risks by living and rearing their young in nest boxes attached to power plant exhaust stacks."
  • Dairyland Power Cooperative President and CEO, William Berg, was named to a four-year term on the Board of Directors of the Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI), an international, non-profit research consortium. Nominated by the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association (NRECA) to represent cooperative interests, Berg was elected at the April 10 EPRI Board meeting.
  • Dairyland Power Cooperative urges caution by those using Lake Flambeau for recreation activities in coming weeks. The ice becomes unstable and dangerous as Spring approaches.
