The 2007 Peregrine falcon breeding season is complete, with all falcon chicks fledged. The birds and the Bird Cam should return early next spring. Dairyland is happy to report that the falcons at the Genoa Site nesting box produced three chicks, and the falcons at the Alma Site not only produced four chicks, but did so by relocating to a nearby wild bluff setting.

The Peregrine falcons at the Alma nesting box relocated to the nearby 12 Mile Bluff, where they nested and produced four healthy chicks in a natural cliff dwelling. Since the purpose of Dairyland’s Peregrine Falcon Restoration Program is the successful reintroduction of the falcons to their natural habitat, it has been exciting to see the birds fulfill that goal. This marks the first time since the inception of the Dairyland program that power plant nesters have relocated to the wild and successfully produced offspring.
