GEN~SYS Energy

GEN~SYS Energy, located in La Crosse, Wis., is a Minnesota cooperative corporation. GEN~SYS Energy is a wholesale electric power marketing and service organization providing a variety of services to its members and others.

GEN~SYS Energy was formed by Dairyland Power Cooperative (DPC) of La Crosse, Wis., and Cooperative Power (CP) of Eden Prairie, Minn., in 1996. GEN~SYS combined the cooperatives' generation and power marketing resources for the benefit of both the cooperatives and their members.

On May 1, 1999, DPC acquired CP’s interest in GEN~SYS Energy. In October 1999, Corn Belt Power Cooperative of Humbolt, Iowa, joined DPC as a non-power marketing member of GEN~SYS Energy. In July 2001, Distribu-Gen joined GEN~SYS Energy. Distribu-Gen, a Wisconsin cooperative, is focused on promoting distributed generation products such as fuel cells and micro-turbines.

In November of 2001, GEN~SYS added a Technical Services group to provide energy management services, energy audits, lighting analysis and power quality. The group will also provide products to assist its members in supplying competitive energy related products and services.

GEN~SYS Energy offers a full range of power supply options and energy management services. In addition to meeting the loads of Dairyland Power Cooperative and the 13 municipal utilities under contract, GEN~SYS is also the power supplier to the municipal systems located in Pardeeville, Wis., St. Charles, Minn., and McGregor, Iowa.

GEN~SYS Energy is a member of the Mid-Continent Area Power Pool (MAPP) Generation Reserve Sharing Pool (MAPP-GRSP), the MAPP Regional Transmission Committee (MAPP-RTC), the Midwest Reliability Organization (MRO), is a Market Participant in the Midwest Independent System Operator (MISO) energy market and is authorized by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) to transact business at market based rates.
